Mindfulness-Based Approaches: Mindfulness ("awakenedness") reflects a state of being "present" or "awake" to the true self. In a mindful state, we feel more "in synch" with our true nature, and have access to a calming inner haven that provides grounding and guidance. Research has shown that mindful practice is effective in treating depression, anxiety, impulse control disorders, and even severe mental illness. In our everyday lives, mindful practice can help us cultivate authentic connection to ourselves, increased levels of joy, and improved control over thought and impulse. Should you choose to incorporate mindful practice into your therapy with me, I will draw from Vipassana meditation, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, the Hakomi method, and mindfulness-based stress reduction.
Through my training in both traditional and mindfulness-based approaches, I have a developed a deep understanding of human consciousness and the nuances that underlie human struggle. My approach is always flexible, and is always customized to fit your unique wants and needs. In our work together, we will focus on your presenting conflict, and also dig deeper to heal the root of the problem. My hope is that through our sessions, you will ultimately develop an inner haven of peace that will ground and guide you at all times.
Traditional Approaches: Traditional approaches (supportive, psychodynamic, and insight-oriented models) offer direct clinical guidance, and a practical approach to collaborative problem solving. These frameworks are especially helpful when clients are seeking interactive dialogue or are in need of specific clinical information. Aside from focusing only on the client's presenting concern, deep personality analysis may also be provided through the incorporation of psychoanalytic and cognitive theory. Wellness techniques and healing strategies are interwoven into therapeutic dialogue, and are uniquely customized to fit each client's unique tempermant, worldview, and specific problem context.
