Additional Training
The Omega Institute, Service for Study Program (May - Aug 2006)
The Omega Institute is a Meditation and Yoga Center in Rhinebeck, New York. Throughout the Spring and Summer of 2006, I lived on campus as part of Omega's seasonal staff, and was enrolled in their "Service for Study Program". In this immersive holistic education program, my chosen area of focus was mindfulness (Vipassana) meditation. Formal skill development in Vipassana was gained through intensive daily training and experiential study. Throughout this four month program, I also received training (through daily course enrollment) in Zen meditation, "Conscious Living" skills, yoga, and holistic nutrition.
The Hakomi Institute of Colorado, "Mindfulness and Somatics in Experiential Psychotherapy" Introductory Workshop (March 1 - 2, 2014)
The Hakomi Method is a powerful tool for facilitating mindfulness, transformation, and symptom relief through close experiential contact with the unconscious mind. This method integrates mindfulness and somatics into therapy in a way that produces direct access to the "core" material underlying our thoughts, feelings and personalites. When we are able to "see" inside ourselves and truly notice the inner dynamics that are at work in the present moment, we are able to transform and re-integrate the unconscious beliefs that shape our lives. The Hakomi Method greatly influences my approach, as it creates a deep sense of safety and connection, and produces uniquely effective results.
EMDR Training Series, Inner Light Counseling & Holistic Center (June 2012-2014)
Staff trainings in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing were offered on an ongoing weekly (or occasionally, biweekly) basis at Inner Light Counseling and Holistic Center. These trainings were administered by a certified EMDR therapist. Acting on the brain's natural capacity to support change and healing on a biological level, EMDR is an evidenced-based practice for treating trauma, depression, and anxiety.
Concurrent Work Experience
Inner Light Counseling and Holistic Center
In addition to my private practice, I also work as a psychotherapist for Inner Light Counseling and Holistic Center. At Inner Light, I provide psychotherapy to individuals of all ages, but specialize primarily in treating young adults, teenagers, and children. My work with these populations has enabled me to expertly treat struggles particular to youth/young adulthood (i.e., impaired self-esteem, social anxiety, disordered eating, self-harm, ADHD, and identity struggles). Similar to my private practice, I also specialize in treating adults (of all ages) coping with anxiety, depression, codependency, and trauma. Through working at Inner Light, I have gained extensive training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing), which I often incorporate into my therapeutic approach. Prior to treating clients at Inner Light (and prior to starting my own private practice), I have worked for various other agencies in the New Jersey area, providing individual, couples, and group psychotherapy.
